The House At The End Of The Street-

There are a number of theories of philosophers to certain media texts this enables us to appreciate how film producers create interest in their films when creating trailers. According to Propp's theory there's always a certain number of characters we always see. For example a protagonist which leads the narrative which in this case is Elissa (Jennifer Lawrence) who typically leads the narrative. in most trailers there's also most antagonist which is played by Ryan Jacobson showing how there is always a villain in most movie's. In this movie there is a mentor which is the mother and the close family cop which give advise to both Jennifer Lawrence and Ryan Jacobson. The herioine is Jennifer Lawrence herself as she rescue's herself and her mother at the part where Ryan is trying to kill her but her mother screams and grabs a gun and shoots the killer.

Barthe- Enigma codes:

Who is Carrie Anne?
Is she still alive?
Is Ryan mentally stable?
Where did the girl from the cafe go, is she Carrie Anne now?
Why does everyone trust him who is he?
How did she escape?

Action codes:

"Ryan, who's tampons are these?" We automatically know there Carrie Anne's
"Yes mum i won't go to Ryan's house" She ends up going to Ryan's house
"Are you with ryan?" "no" We know she's with Ryan

FILM POSTER&TRAILER ANALYSIS.

The film trailer is a typical romance, murder, blood, trust, killer, girl and drama

  • Men: The men in this movie which was 'Ryan Jacobson' was represented as a tough, violent, twisted person. This makes it seem as the normal stereotype was reinforced due to the fact that most men in movies are known for being tough. The trailer didn't show the cops but it shows how men have more dominion over women and how powerful they are.
  • Women: Surprisingly women were represented as strong yet emotional people. In this trailer there was concerned mother towards the age of 40-50 which tend to be quiet emotional and worried about her child
  • Teenagers: This trailer has a quiet arrogant teenager who didn't listen and blamed everything on her mother and they were portrayed as rather ignorant person who were ready to lie and party all night long, although she was ignorant she was also portrayed as a strong individual who didn't rely on others and tried to help other people which didn't reinforce women it made them appear much strong and independent.
  • 'Gang': There was a gang in this movie which were reinforced as a typical gang thinking they could do what they want and acting as if they were in charge and that everyone's world evolved around them.
  • Villian: The villian was the lover boy 'Ryan Jacobson' who was repesented as a twisted person who cannot live with the burden on his chest so decides to destroy everyone else's life which was quiet typical involving killing, secrets, murder but wasn't as reinforced.
The trailer gets straight into the point telling the story within 2minutes without revealing too much but yet enough to leave you feeling mysterious. It has the typical white girl walking alone late at night after a smashing party and a guy trying to hit on her but she doesn't know that it a Ryan Jacobson the guy that everyone talks about. The scene of the trailer cuts quickly with suspense music building up too when she reveals something about him which may be hurtful, The trailer blacks out after every scene change making more suspension build up. During the first minute of the trailer it moves on to a very peculiar part so that it doesnt get boring. Towards the middle of the trailer it gets very mystical and threatening  making the audience feel engaged.

The movie is filmed in Canada but is a typical American Mystery horror film. The trailer has added some text towards the end of the trailer 'A new home' followed by the hero in the movie which is typically a guy but what makes this movie different is the hero is a girl known as Jennifer Lawrence which is clearly established. Another good thing about this trailer is the characters are shown different personalities and are shown clearly how they differ from each other and states all of the main actors in the movie.
